Not Here.  Gone On Ahead.
by Dick Hunt, March 28th, 2011.

In March 1957 I said goodbye to my Father whom I loved dearly.  He had suffered from heart and lung problems and was all worn out.  The family was around him, he said goodbye and he went home…to his real home, “where suffering and pain are no more, neither sighing, but Life, everlasting’.  He had been with us as he lived out his years and we missed him, and we miss him still.
This life on planet earth is our testing ground and not our permanent home. Here we have freedom to choose where we will spend Eternity, either in heaven with God the Father and God the Son, our Saviour and Lord and God the Holy Spirit who is our teacher and guide, or without God,.…forever.   We are Pilgrims in this life, on the way and free to choose our course. We can decide to serve ourselves and be our own guide and make our own decisions without giving our Creator more than an occasional nod.  Or we can search and  discover that our maker knows what is best for us and wants to bless us with His everlasting love.
Heaven is what we call the “place” where all Creatures, great and small worship and serve the Creator.  There is no hatred there, no grief, no remorse, no tears or anguish…just Love for all…with God.  Hell is the name we give to life without God, away from His presence, where there will be terrible remorse and gnashing of teeth, because there is no chance to leave there and be with the Father in joy and gladness with all who have chosen to be with Him.  The choice is ours to make, now in the time of this mortal life, through Jesus Christ, in the Power of the Holy Spirit.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that all who believe in Him shall not perish, but have Eternal Life.” (John 3:16)  This is what God holds out to us as our choice.  No-one else can make the choice for us.  Either Heaven with God…or perishing in Hell without Him. There is nothing in between.  Does that sound harsh?  We belong to God, all of us.
After my Father’s funeral, I was going into the house with Mother and I said, “it is well with Dad you know, he is with God and we will be with him again”.  She said, with a quiver in her voice, “I know, but it will seem so long to wait”. That was 54 years ago next month.  They had a wonderful life together.  In the Creeds we say that ‘we believe in the Communion of Saints’.  That means  we believe we will be with our loves ones and all the others who go into God’s Eternal Kingdom in Heaven, known as “Saints”.  We are all called to be saints!
Now, what about our time of grieving for those whom we have lost awhile until we see them again? Picture in your mind the most lovely times you spent with your dear ones while they were here.  Eternity in the company of the saints will be the constant agenda with God in heaven. In this present life we occupy a space and live in a physical body which is ours to inhabit as long as we are here.  When our body dies, our souls leave and are transported into heaven to be with the Lord; or perish in hell without recourse to God who loves us. Our bodies return to the earth from which they sprung.  We are given new bodies in which to live in heaven and we will know one another and supremely we will know God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Our true home is in heaven.
How can we know that we will go to heaven? When we say yes to God, through Jesus Christ who paid the price of all our sins on the Cross, thank him and praise him for paying our ransom, repent and believe the Gospel. WE  KNOW.  The Holy Spirit  assures us.  We will know in our own hearts that “by the Grace of God we have been saved from the fault and corruption of the nature which we inherit as well as the actual sins which we have committed.” And we will be able to release our loved ones into the tender keeping of God Almighty who loves us and them with His everlasting love. And we will be filled with joy.
God owns us. He gave us the breath of life.  He has done everything necessary to make our Salvation available through Jesus, who bought us again  through his sacrifice on the Cross.
What is the nature which we inherit? It is the same sin which Adam and Eve committed in the garden of Eden.  They decided that they would run their own lives without being guided by God. They ate of the fruit which was forbidden to them, the knowledge of good and evil.  In truth, they were disobedient. Being against God is all it takes to ruin our lives.  He knows what is best for us.  As soon as Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they were ashamed, felt their nakedness and tried to hide from God. And continued disobedience hardens us in our determination to go it alone.
Some people have never heard the Good News that Jesus died to blot out  the sins of all mankind.  That is the fault of all who heard the gospel –  we have not told them.  Some people have been brought up in the Faith and have been weaned away by society, becoming disobedient.  The devil has beguiled them as he did in the Garden of Eden. Many professing Christians have been led astray and denied the claims of God upon their lives. And many of them in our Western world are in positions of authority in various Churches. WE MUST WORSHIP AND SERVE GOD, RATHER THAN MEN.
There is a deep crisis in the Churches in our western world now, caused by leaders in positions of authority who are bowing to the demands of the secular world to soften the claims of God on our lives.  In order to live in the Faith which is true and based upon the Word of God in the Bible, WE MUST STUDY OUR BIBLES and be prepared to monitor what we hear from the Authorities and read in the media and the rash of religious books.  It is all too easy to be led astray.

  1. Just stopping by from your daughter Joy’s blog. I enjoyed reading your stories, especially about your father, and about the geese.
