Valentines Message – How We Met

Filed under: Current — Dick Hunt's Blog @ 11:32 am

I am 90 years old.  I met my wife, Ruth, at a Calgary youth social event in a Church in 1944.  I was in R.C.A.F. uniform and Ruth was and is a lovely girl.  We danced together to several old fashioned waltzes and in great harmony. We continued to see each other as often as my duties permitted. We walked miles and miles, sharing our dreams and interests. Finally, on a magic evening of April 1st we mutually realized we were deeply in love with each other and for the first time we embraced and poured out our hearts  longings to each other.
We married in October of that year and have lived the most joyful 66 plus years of marriage. Ruth has been afflicted with Alzheimer’s for thirteen years and for the past two years has been in a good care home. I see her almost every day. Our love for each other has not abated in the least.  We have four children, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  We are in it for the long haul. Each day when I go to see her, her face lights up and she says, “I love you” and I respond in like manner.  The sparks still fly between us.
